Meet the Designers - Interview with Stacie Bloomfield from Gingiber

Continuing with our "Meet the Designers Series" today we are chatting with Stacie from Gingiber. We've fell in love with Stacie's designs since the beginning of opening our online boutique. Gingiber's studio is located in historic downtown Springdale, Arkansas where Stacie Bloomfield, a childhood doodler, creates the cutest designs for their paper goods and homewares.

Why was Gingiber created?

I created Gingiber in 2009 when I was looking for artwork to decorate my baby girl's nursery, but couldn't find anything that suited my taste. I had studied art in college, so I decided to start illustrating my own artwork. The, rest, as they say, is history (and a bit of luck and a lot of hard work).

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

I met my now husband when I was only 11. We went to the same small school in Springfield, MO. We went to college together and got married when I was 20! He has a PhD in Mathematics, and I am the illustrator. Although, if you ask my two daughters, Violet (7) and Lucy (4) they might argue that they are also illustrators. They love to draw! We also have an 18 month old son named Dexter. We reside in Springdale, AR, and love this part of the country.

What are 5 things that people do not know about you

1. When I was younger, I wanted to be a professional softball player when I grew up

2. I was valedictorian of my high school class.

3. I am an early to bed sort of gal, and like to be asleep no later than 9 PM

4. I secretly love bluegrass music

5. I know more about celebrity gossip and television trivia than I should!

What is the greatest lesson you have learned from your kids?

I have learned the joy of being in the present. I'm trying to be more conscious about spending quality, focused time with them instead of trying to multitask. My children are so full of life, and I am trying to take their lead.

Who inspires you?

I am obsessed with the artwork of Fairfield Porter lately.

How do you balance your family and running a successful business?

I feel like the trick to living the life that I do is to lean into the change that naturally occurs. Things are always in flux. There are seasons of plenty and seasons of stress and the key to making it work is simply breathing, focusing on what is most important at the time, and trying to not take on too much. This is a lesson that has been hard to learn, and I am doing my best to practice what I am preaching.

We've love your creativity and fun designs and we have followed you since we started our business,  tell us what are your plans for the future.

I am working on a coloring book that should be released later this year. I am developing more kids products, and am beginning to run workshops out of my Springdale, AR studio!
