Autumn feels like a cadenza for the year. We move through the other seasons to arrive at the grand finale where leaves fly, the cool breeze dances, the light full, and colour all embracing. Everywhere the eye rests seems like a photo opportunity.
Here are our tips to capture your little one in this magical season.
As purveyors of baby garb let's start with outfitting. Simply put, less is more. The beauty is in the foliage and the honeyed light but if you over accessorize you risk losing baby’s face in a swirl of textures and colours.
Keep it simple with neutrals like cream, sage, grey, and dusty rose. Do not match the outfit to the foliage for the contour of the body gets lost in the background. Rethink going matchy-matchy as a family, the 80’s might be back but not like this. Instead, pick a family palette ensuring you avoid big logos, shiny, and neon trends.
Do bring a heavier blanket to experiment with as a prop or to sit baby down amongst the leaves. The younger the baby the more positioning you’ll have to do. In the sitting age 7-11 months you tend to get more candid shots full of your little one’s personality.
Play, don’t pose, this will ensure your connection is captured. Luckily for parents the magic hour happens around 5:30 pm to get the most desirable light and don’t forget snacks for adults and baby, alike. No one coo’s at the camera on an empty tummy.
Most of all have fun, your pics will provide fond memories of an evening spent in nature’s glory with your favourite little person.
