Meet the designers: Interview with Tennille from My Mila

I’ve known Tennille, the artist and designer behind My Mila for various years now. Her trendy and sweet collection of baby and kids clothing is so smart and comfy.  The amazing part of My Mila's collections is that it is so versatile and you can always dress your babes on trend.  Always helping and supporting other mompreneurs, Tenille is a lovely girlboss and I am so honoured to share with you our interview with her so you will know her a bit more too.

Why was My Mila created?

I created My Mila to express my own style.  Before My Mila I was hand making custom made gifts, clothes, and bedding.  I felt as though each piece didn't represent my style, and I wanted something I could show off and be proud of.  I ordered some fabric that I was in love with, and My Mila was born...

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

I am a 30 year old mother of 2 boys, Xavier 4yrs old and Damian 9yrs old.  I've been married to my very supportive husband for 5 years.  We are home bodies and enjoy hanging out at home watching movies.

What are 5 things that people do not know about you.

I DO NOT like my ears being touched.
I'm not a huge fan of chocolate.
I love to sing in the car.
I used to play ringette, and miss it so much.
My first flight was skydiving.  I jumped out of a plane twice before I actually landed in a plane as a passenger.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned from motherhood?

Parenting 2 boys, one with special needs, is no easy task.  Pick your battles and be patient.

Who inspires you?

I've always had a love for Mushybooks.  Lesley is a dear friend now and I just can't get enough of how she's been running her business.  I feel like I get a sneak peak of her behind the scene and I am still so proud of what she's accomplished.  She inspires me to make better business decisions.

How do you balance motherhood and running a successful business?

I ask for help, where I'm willing to let go.  If I feel like it's something I'm going to micromanage I won't get anyone else to do it.  I'm slowly learning to schedule my day better, and stick to that schedule so work doesn't take away from family time.

What is wonderful from My Mila is how always collaborates with other small businesses and charities. What has this experience been like?

I love to work with other businesses and help share new creations.  Everyone knows what it's like to start from the bottom, sharing to help gain business for others is something I wish more companies would do.

I wish I worked with more charities, I feel like I could be doing a lot more.
